Cinematographer Molly Manning Walker's debut feature, How to Have Sex, was screened in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes this year and won the grand prize. The main characters of the movie are Tara, Skye and Em, three young girls who have just graduated from high school in the UK. The friends decide to go on summer vacation to Crete while waiting for their A-Level exam results. The sole aim of this excursion is to party, get hammered, and have sex. Tara, the shyest of the group, has also set her mind on having sex for the first time. The young girls agree to spend the holiday with another group of friends they meet at their hotel, but things take a different turn when Tara can't find the ideal candidate for her first sexual experience. Starting as a fun summer movie, How To Have Sex slowly turns grim. Walker, who also wrote the screenplay, deals with peer bullying, heartbreak, and, most importantly, sexual harassment and consent among youngsters. How To Have Sex is one of the best recent films to address these issues and one of the year's best finds.
