Following Undine, a film about a water nymph, Christian Petzold is back with a story about four friends surrounded by a wildfire. Leon and Felix come to a small holiday house in the forest on the Baltic Sea coast to work and for vacation, but a surprise awaits them. A friend of Felix's mother, the young and beautiful Nadja, has settled in before them. The group becomes four people after Nadja invites Devid, the lifeguard, to stay at the house. The vitality and spontaneity of the other three drive Leon away from the group, who is desperately trying to finish his second novel. He withdraws himself and becomes very grumpy prior to a visit by his publisher. On the other hand, local forest fires are spreading rapidly.

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Berlin Film Festival, Afire is a summer film reminiscent of Éric Rohmer. “I like that in French and American movies, the summer is not only a season - it’s something where you learn something about yourself,” says director Petzold.
